Gay sailing in the Ionian starting from Levkada
A sailing holiday that starts from Levkada. In the Ionian we offer one week or two week sailing trips. These sailing weeks always start from the island Levkada. On the two week trips both weeks have a distinct route with different islands and ports. Let our gay skipper guide you over the Greek seas.
Day 1: The journey starts in Levkada. The lively boulevard with typical Greek style tavern's and shops is within walking distance from the marina.
Day 2: After breakfast we sail through the canal to open sea. We set course for the main land. Palairos is an agricultural village with a small harbour sitting under high mountains. An idyllic spot to overnight.
Day 3: We set sail for Meganisi. The island was until recently connected to smuggling. Its much indented coast is riddled with sheltered bays and coves, all of the wonderfully situated in beautiful surroundings. A perfect place to drop anchor in one of them and have a swim and lunch. After lunch we sail to Vathi a pleasant relaxed place with some fine walks through the olive groves to the next bay.
Day 4: 20 Miles to the south lays the legendary island Ithaca. The homeland of Odysseus. The island capital, Vathi, is a relaxed low-key place which bustles when the ferries arrive.
Day 5: Vathi is a good place to start exploring the island by motorbike. An interesting excursion over the winding road along the spine of the mountain range. And if interested you can visit the sites associated with the Odyssey.
Day 6: We sail between the mountains of Ithaca and Cephalonia. Our destination today is Fiskardho on the island of Cephalonia. The building around the harbour are mostly 19th century Italian style looking houses. Which makes this friendly village with intimate atmosphere the picture postcard spot.
Day 7: On the south coast of Levkada lays a large bay with tucked away in the corner a very small harbour. Vassiliki is a little place with a wonderful waterfront shaded by trees and festooned with drying nets. The village is a well-watered place with abundant spring. Odd to hear water running away into the sea.
Day 8: We sail further along the south coast of Levkada towards Sivota. This popular place lies at the end of a deep bay. For our guests that sail one week it is time to say goodbye. And we welcome our new guests for the second week.
Day 9: The 5 mile long island Kalamos is high and looks like a colossal stranded whale. Towards the approach of the village there is usually a strong wind. Great for sailing. And in the evening there is traditional Greek food in the tavern.
Day 10: Kastos, the scraggy sister island lying parallel to Kalamos. The little charming fishing village has a few houses and a tavern. The fishermen our sitting in the shade of the trees mending their nets.
Day 11: Today we have a nice sail to Ithaca. Tucked into the corner of a large bay lays Frikes. This delightful place is set at the bottom of a steep and wooded valley with old houses clustered around the small harbour.
Day 12: After breakfast we sail to an abandoned bay. We cook diner on board and have a swim under the stars.
Day 13: Meganisi's much indented coast is riddled with sheltered bays and coves, all of them wonderfully situated in beautiful surroundings. We anchor in one of them and have diner at the tavern on shore.
Day 14: In the morning we have our final swim. After lunch we start our sail back to Levkada city.
Day 15: It is time to say goodbye.
This itinerary is an example. Local circumstances such as weather may influence the itinerary. On the eight day trip we call on the islands Kefalonia, Meganisi, Ithaka and Kalamos.
